So election 2011 is all but done.

So, how did I fare as per my thoughts and predictions in Election 2011....... posted on 11.02.11?

Not very well is the short answer.

The pundits and pollsters were pretty much on the button.

There are still some seats to be declared but at this stage it is clear that Fine Gael will get something in the mid to high 70s, Labour in the high 30s, Fianna Fall may not even reach 20, with Sinn Fein not far behind and a substantial cohort of disparate Independents also in the mix.

Thus, Fine Gael has done exceptionally well, Labour very well and Fianna Fail very badly.
I'm not sure that anybody suggested, at that point, that Fianna Fail was going to be all but removed from the political stage, but overall the outcome was just about as the pollsters and pundits had predicted.

A Fine Gael / Labour coalition, with a very substantial majority, is now in prospect.

In defence of my views, my assumption that FF and Sinn Fein would do better than was being predicted, at the expense of Labour, was not the case because, in the event significant numbers of disaffected FF voters did transfer to FG which I did not believe they would do.
And that this would happen was foreseen by nobody and was the cause of much surprise and comment, by the self same commentators and pundits, as the results came in and it became clear that FF votes were transferring to FG.

Back to the workshop - I guess...............
