The girls seem to be getting the hang of egg laying but we are confused or, rather, they are confusing us.

We have been getting two or, for a day or two, three eggs a day and now have, constantly, a fine bowl of brown eggs to hand.

But the hypothesis exists that we have an egg eater as our daily crop has reduced to two and, early on, we found two broken egg shells, away from the hen run, which were also of a distinctly paler colour.
And then for a day or two we were collecting one pale egg and one brown egg but the pale egg has now stopped appearing.

However all this angst is not what prompted me to write more here about the hens and their eggs.

We were told, or read somewhere, that when hens start to lay they lay small eggs.

And indeed, by comparison to the shop eggs we have been buying they are smaller.

I was away for the day last Thursday and when I got home asked Sue if she had collected the eggs.

She had............

...........and these are the three she had collected.

We don't know who laid the miniature egg and we have not had another of the same, or similar, size since.

So you can see why, generally, we are a bit confused.............
